So for fun I figured I'd start a little blog about the pair of new kittens I just got this past Sunday. I was meaning to start this earlier, but me being me it never happened. They are and absolutely adorable pair, brother and sister... Of course that means the look alike and I still can't tell them apart ;-) At least not a first glance. And since everyone has asked... no I don't have names for them yet.
Day 1 - Sunday
Picked them up Sunday afternoon, they were pretty good in the car ride. Didn't start getting frigidity until about 1/2 home. Back at my place, after the initial hiding under the couch... I managed to get them out using some food and then they where pretty up for starting their exploration. I even had some friends over and are great about meeting new people. We even managed to clip their claws.
Discover of the day: Laser pointer! They really really really like the laser pointer. It was quite amusing to watch. Round and round they go. You can tell them apart because the boy chases directly after it and the little girl swats at it from side to side.
I also discovered that I really needed to get a covered or high wall litter box, as they went to down with the cat litter and I basically had what looked like a sandbox covering my bathroom floor. Yay for hand vac!
Day 2 - Monday
Start of the work week...
Discovery for the day: The closet. Which happens to be chalk full of stuff to climb on! One was in there, got him out, 2min later both of them where in there. After finally getting them out I decided to close the door. I'll let them get back to exploring that when I'm around and it was now time to leave for work.
Since I'm worried that they might get into something in my apartment and hurt themselves, I decided to put them in a large dog crate while I'm off at work. Put a KittyCity "Hideaway" in there along with a small litter box and water. Needless to say, they were not very happy about it and before I could even get out the door they where all over the inside of the crate. When I got home after work... water and litter going everywhere. But they where safe and very happy to be let out to resume the exploring and running around the apartment while I started on cleaning things up. Vacuumed the crate and surrounding area with the hand vac, shook out the hideaway and blanked, and scooped out the litter. I then found a box to the litter box in and swapped out the hideaway for they little carpet cubbies to make more room in the crate.
I'm still working on them about not being on the table, but all and all they are being very good. And I'm glad I got two of them to keep each other company.
Day 3 - Tue
They weren't so distraught about being put in the crate this morning. I think the new arrangement works better. I put the water and food in there this time, since they didn't finish breakfast. During lunch I ran over to Target and PetSmart to look for a new litter box, and ended up with a sifting enclosed box.
Returning home after work... no mess! yay!! The new arrangement seemed two work quite well. I setup the new litter box which was a little bit of a conundrum for them. They couldn't quite figure out how to use the door, even after I showed it to them. So I had to take it off for now. I did one of those litter mats, however, they seem to like to bypass it and just jump off the litter box. Oh well, its still better than the sandbox ;-)
Discovery of the day: My comforter...while I was trying to go to bed. And it wasn't just because I was moving under it, especially since I wasn't moving. I think it was the air pockets that they where going after. So each time the pounced, the puff moved and then they would pounce again... and again... and again... and again...
